The Photographic Centre Nykyaika has organized an international triennial since 1987. The main organiser is a non-profit association promoting photo-art as regional photo centre in Tampere, Finland. First editions of the festival were called ”Photography Tampere” and in 1999 the event was given a new name: Backlight. During its history the event has engaged in many different forms of co-operation, both national and international, which have been crucial for its success and development. Importantly public funding has enabled to grow the event, especially EU-grants for 1999-2008. Without dear friends, co-organisers, partners, gifted artists Backlight would not be as known as it is nowadays. You will find co-operators list from our website under ”Network” and previous editions under “Archive”.
