Backlight Photo Festival has opened the\u00a0call<\/strong> for artists worldwide to submit their proposals for the next event taking place in 2017.<\/h4>\n

Backlight continues focusing on current social themes and phenomenons and for the upcoming event we have chosen the theme Independence<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0We\u00b4re looking for courageous approaches from both individual, collective and common experiences and challenges around the subject and its definitions. The works selected will be presented at the Backlight Photo Festival starting in September 2017, when the event celebrates its 30 years of existence!<\/p>\n

In addition to the Backlight Photo Festival 2017 exhibitions in Finland, Backlight\u00a0will also organize\u00a0a touring exhibition\/exhibition series in Europe during the year 2017<\/strong>. This tour –Independence Through the Lenses<\/em> (working title) is part of\u00a0the programme for the\u00a0centenary of Finland\u00b4s independence in 2017<\/a>. These exhibitions will consist of works by Finnish artists and\u00a0artists based in Finland. The locations and dates for these exhibitions will be announced\u00a0later as we have confirmed the details with the hosting institutions and partners.<\/p>\n

\"MAJAOJA3We are also very pleased to inform Finnish artists about the special Majaoja Prize. The\u00a0Majaoja-s\u00e4\u00e4ti\u00f6<\/a>\u00a0gives out the special Majaoja Prize during the Backlight Photo Festival 2017, under the events theme Independence<\/em>. <\/strong>Three Finnish photographers from amongst the applicants of the open call for Backlight \u00b417 will be awarded with the total sum of 18.000 euros (10.000\u20ac\/5.000\u20ac\/3.000\u20ac\/each). The open call jury for the Backlight Photo Festival 2017 will select the photographers for the awards by the end of 2016.<\/p>\n

The announcement of the winners will be made by the Majaoja Foundation during the Backlight Photo Festival 2017.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
