Yet today our event focuses on current social themes extending culturally engaged perspectives on reality through various concepts and artistic approaches. The Backlight Photo Festival promotes intercultural dialogue by revealing the hidden, the veiled, the lost and the forgotten.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.valokuvakeskusnykyaika.fi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Photographic Centre Nykyaika<\/a> has organized international photography festival since 1987 in Tampere, Finland. Through out its\u00b4 thirty years of history the festival has presented nearly 400 artists from over 40 countries in various exclusive exhibitions. Since 2012 the Backlight Photo Festival has produced additional actions also for the years in between the festival\u00a0\u2013such as international residencies, exhibition exchanges and promotion of Finnish photography in forms of exhibitions and tours in partner festivals and institutions abroad.<\/p>\n<p>Each Backlight\u00a0 forms a new unique entity with current social theme, renewed structure and a challenging content with exhibitions and wide-ranging Symposium program.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>FI \u23a5<\/strong> Backlight \u2013valokuvatapahtuman juuret ovat dokumentaarisessa valokuvauksessa. Tapahtuma keskittyy yh\u00e4 yhteiskunnallisiin teemoihin\u00a0laajentaen kulttuureihin sidonnaisia n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmia lukuisten sis\u00e4ll\u00f6llisten ja taiteellisten l\u00e4hestymistapojen ja toteutusten kautta. Backlight tukee kulttuurienv\u00e4list\u00e4 vuoropuhelua tuomalla esiin niiden k\u00e4tkettyj\u00e4, verhottuja, kadotettuja ja unohdettuja osia.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.valokuvakeskusnykyaika.fi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Valokuvakeskus Nykyaika<\/a> on j\u00e4rjest\u00e4nyt kansainv\u00e4list\u00e4 valokuvatapahtumaa Tampereella jo vuodesta 1987. \u00a030-vuotisen historiansa aikana festivaali on esitt\u00e4nyt l\u00e4hes taiteilijaa yli 40 maasta lukuisissa korkeatasoisissa n\u00e4yttelyiss\u00e4. Vuodesta 2012 l\u00e4htien Backlight Photo Festival on j\u00e4rjest\u00e4nyt toimintaa my\u00f6s festivaalin\u00a0v\u00e4livuosille \u2013 n\u00e4it\u00e4 ovat olleet kansainv\u00e4liset residenssit, n\u00e4yttelyvaihdot sek\u00e4 suomalaisen valokuvan esitt\u00e4minen n\u00e4yttelyiden ja kiertueiden muodossa kumppanifestivaaleilla ja n\u00e4yttelytiloissa ulkomailla.<\/p>\n<p>Jokainen Backlight on aina uusi ja erilainen. Tapahtumalla on ajankohtainen yhteiskunnallinen teema, uudistettu rakenne ja haastava sis\u00e4lt\u00f6 n\u00e4yttelyiss\u00e4 ja Symposium-osuudessa.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\"><strong>General information regarding the open call:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Backlight Photo Festival is a triennial. <\/strong>Therefore the main event,\u00a0<strong>festival <\/strong>in Tampere,<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>only takes place in every three years [ (\u2026) 2014, 2017\u2026].<\/p>\n<p>After Backlight \u00b414 we have decided to have the<span style=\"color: #00ccff;\"> <strong>open<\/strong> <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\">call one year before the actual festival event takes place<\/span>. <\/strong>This will give us more preparation time as well as able us to accept series still in process. We intent to work closely with the selected artists to ensure the finalization up to the artist\u00b4s concept presented.<\/p>\n<p>Our open call is aimed to photographers and artists working with lens-based media under the events current theme. Application process takes place online.<\/p>\n<p>Please note: we only accept applications submitted via our platform at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.opencall.fi\">www.opencall.fi<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The submission is open to all photographers and artist working with lens-based media<\/li>\n<li>Submitting projects for Backlight Photo Festival is free of charge.<\/li>\n<li>Backlight Photo Festivals submissions have no restrictions regarding the age or nationality of the applicant. Also groups and collectives are accepted to participate.<\/li>\n<li>The workers and \/ or persons currently holding a position of trust in the organizing \/ partnering institutions are not eligible to apply.<\/li>\n<li>In addition to the open call Backlight Photo Festival can also invite artists or arrange co-organized exhibitions or other related program with its partners.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Selection process:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; The decisions will be made by an international jury, invited by Backlight.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; The decisions will be based on the projects relation and relevance to the festivals current theme.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Selected artists will be informed in person.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Due to the amount of submissions expected, the jury is not able to justify the unaccepted applications.<\/p>\n<p>Grant of rights<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>When submitting entries, participants confirm that the material is their own and copyright has not been violated.<\/li>\n<li>The artist warrants that third party rights are not attended.<\/li>\n<li>The applicant is responsible for authorizations and release from their models and subjects.<\/li>\n<li>The organizer has no right to use the provided material in other purposes than the jury process before contacting the artists and agreeing the terms of use in writing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>EN \u23a5 The Backlight Photo Festival has roots in documentary photography.
